IAAP CAP Practice Exam 2026 – Complete Test Preparation

The term that describes a complete assortment of characters in a specific style of a specific typeface is "font." A font encompasses not just the design of individual letters and symbols, but also the full set of characters—including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and special symbols—that share a common design aesthetic and characteristics within that typeface. This is an important distinction in typography, as it indicates both the visual style and the functional set of characters used in written communication.

In contrast, a glyph refers to a specific visual representation of a character, which can vary even within the same font for stylistic reasons. Kerning, on the other hand, relates to the spacing between individual characters to achieve a visually pleasing result, while leading refers to the vertical space between lines of text. Each of these terms addresses different aspects of type design and layout, but the term that encapsulates the entirety of characters in a specific style remains "font."
